Monitoring Job Groups
A Job Group is a container for jobs that helps you manage their executions. In the Job Group Monitor you find information on the processing status of the individual jobs and access the functions available for them; you can also modify the Group properties.
You can monitor any Job Group or job within it that you are authorized to work with. Authorities and permissions are set in your user definition.
When a Job Group is executed its status turns to Active; this information is available in the Tasks list. The status of the jobs included in it is Registered as long as they are not executed and turns to Active as soon as they start.
Whereas the Task list provides information on the overall status of the Group, it is the Monitor where you find useful details on the current status and progress of its jobs.
During the execution of a Job Group, the monitor is dynamic; it refreshes every 60 seconds to provide the latest information on the status of its jobs.
What You See on the Job Group Monitor
-
Structure
You can see the structure of the Group with all the tasks that are involved.
-

You can follow the overall status of the Group as we as of the individual jobs within it.
-

You can see the details of the Group and of any task within it.
-
Reports
If the Group has any related reports, you can open and view them.
What You Can Do
From the Job Group Monitor you can modify some of the Group settings as well as the properties of the tasks that are still active. These changes affect that particular execution only. As soon as it is ended, the original settings apply again. If you want those changes to be permanent, you have to change the Job Group definition. See Job Group (JOBG).
The Job Group Monitor is available as long as the Group remains in the Tasks list, also after it has ended. You can also use it to re-execute particular tasks.
Important Considerations
The number of Max. Parallel Tasks allowed in a Group object has important implications:
-
1 is the default. It means that only one task can be started at a time, therefore the jobs within the group start one after another.
The sequence in which they are started is not controlled by the Group but by the Automation Engine Priority specified in the individual object definitions.
Tasks that are being executed within a group are flagged as C_HOSTG. This status is displayed in the Type column on the Process Monitoring perspective only as long as the task is being processed.
-
Simultaneous execution of jobs within the group:
Let's suppose that a Group contains 10 jobs. If 8 is set as maximum number of allowed parallel tasks, when the Group is executed and, therefore in Active status, 8 tasks will be Active as well, whereas 2 remain in Registered status. As soon as a task is finished, task number 9 changes to Active, and so on.
The system decides which tasks is the next based on its AE priority and on the FIFO principle.
You can change this setting, provided your user definition contains the necessary privileges.
